Today we moved the chicks out of the brooding house and into their new movable pasture shelter. From now on they will get a good percentage of their nutrition from grass, bugs, and worms.
Unfortunately, not all the chicks are clear on the concept of staying inside the poultry net electric fence to be protected from predators. And there is a family of foxes living nearby. We did a test run with a small group of chicks over the weekend, and they all learned pretty quickly, so I have my fingers crossed.

I’m curious as to why you didn’t go with a chicken tractor? Too much impact to the land?
–Mike
Exactly. The day-range model is much lower impact, so the house does not have to be moved every day (which saves on labor). Also, we are guessing the chickens are happier with more space to wander around.
Hello. I was just curious if you do anything with these chickens? I see information about selling beef. Do you slaughter and sell chickens? Do you sell eggs?
This is our first batch of chickens, and they are too young, so we don’t have any eggs or any broilers for sale yet. We expect to have some broilers starting around the end of July and eggs around the end of September. We have not decided yet about pricing. We will make an announcement via our newsletter as soon as we decide on details.
