Craig and Omar are in the news lately because of their efforts to build a new USDA-inspected chicken processing facility in Leominster, Massachusetts. Residents of the next-door residential neighborhood are objecting, mainly because they fear for the values of their property. No matter how much modern technology might prevent any public nuisance, the word “slaughterhouse” triggers negative emotions. I think this would happen anywhere—or am I wrong? Any volunteers out there for bringing a chicken plant to their town?

They could try Lomar Park in Pepperell. It’s our designated “industrial area” in town.
Haverhill nh would welcome it!

A pity you are talking Mass, out here in Illinois we would give you the land!! we are desperate for somewhere. i drive over two hours to the closest.. c
Everybody wants to eat but God forbid we try to process it! Deal with it people!! Deal with the farms as well to raise the animals! No farms no Food!!!!
I think it’s on farmers and consumers to realize 2 things. Farmers need to realize that if they are producing smells, they are doing it wrong. Consumers need to learn that properly run farms are never an issue in the community.
I think you’d be welcome in Westmoreland.
I think NH would be a much better place. Then I would have a reason to raise more chickens of course if you did turkeys that would be even better. Good luck.
There’s one (family owned) that is basically closing out here in Derry, NH (on the Hampstead border) that was very successful. The couple retired and are only running about 1/10 of what they used to. Plenty of land available that is far enough from others, and plenty of folks who raise birds that would frequent it, and support it.
